PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection device and a detection method capable of detecting sulfide mineral fine particles existing in water at a low percentage content over a wide range, by using a detection cell which can efficiently detect an acoustic wave generated by optoacoustic effect at high sensitivity.SOLUTION: Water with a possibility of including sulfide mineral fine particles is put into a detection cell 11 of a detection device 10 for the sulfide mineral fine particles using optoacoustic effect, and then excitation light 13 is emitted by using light source means 12 controlled by light source control means 14. Sulfide minerals absorb light with a specific wavelength in accordance with the kind, and generate an acoustic wave with the optoacoustic effect. The acoustic wave is detected by using a piezoelectric element (acoustic wave detection means) 15, and a specific kind of sulfide mineral fine particle is detected by processing the signal of the acoustic wave by using signal processing means 16.
