PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing polystyrene sulfonic acids having a controlled molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) or a salt thereof.;SOLUTION: The method is characterized by hydrolyzing polystyrene sulfonic acid esters produced by subjecting styrene sulfonic acid esters represented by formula (1) (wherein R1 each independently represents a 1-12C linear, branched or cyclic alkyl group which may have a substituent or a 6-12C aryl group which may have a substituent; R2 each independently represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a 1-12C linear, branched or cyclic alkyl group which may have a substituent or a 6-12C aryl group which may have a substituent; m represents an integer of 1 to 5; n represents an integer of 0 to 4; and m+n=5) to living radical polymerization or living anionic polymerization.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
