The invention relates to a process for production of zeolite NaX from raw kaolinite. The process comprises calcining the ground raw kaolinite to convert to metakaolinite, dealuminating the metakaolinite and separating the unreacted solid by filtration. The unreacted solid was treated with aqueous alkali and the mixture was filtered to separate the unreacted solid residue. The alkaline solution, that containing sodium silicate, was blended with a silicon salt. The acid filtrate was slowly added to the alkaline solution and the mixture placed in a hot water bath for crystallization. The crystallized zeolite NaX formed was separated and dried.
