The present invention provides a gesture recognition method and a smart mobile terminal. The smart mobile terminal comprises: an FPC touch button module, disposed on a housing of the smart mobile terminal, and used for receiving a preset touch operation signal, and sending the touch operation signal; a wake-up control module, used for receiving the touch operation signal, and determining whether the touch operation signal is a wake-up interruption signal, if yes, sending an interruption request according to a type of the wake-up interruption signal; and a baseband chip, used for performing a corresponding operation on the smart mobile terminal according to the type of the interruption request. The present invention enables the smart mobile terminal to wake up to enter a standby or lock-screen state through a specific touch operation signal by adopting a self-capacitance touch detection principle and based on a touch sensing button chip, making it easy for any user to operate, and actions are simple and practical, thereby providing desirable use experience.
