The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for estimating a bone structure of proximal femur by using an ultrasonic attenuation and a backscatter coefficient. The method of estimating a bone structure by using an ultrasonic attenuation and a backscatter coefficient provides a method of calculating a bone structure of the proximal femur, the method including: irradiating an ultrasonic pulse to a proximal femur; receiving the ultrasonic pulse reflected from the proximal femur and converting the reflected ultrasonic pulse into an electrical signal; and calculating the ultrasonic attenuation coefficient and the backscatter coefficient through the electrical signal converted in the converting of the reflected ultrasonic pulse and calculating a bone volume fraction (BV/TV) and a trabecular bone thickness (Tb, Th).According to the present invention, the ultrasonic wave is irradiated onto the proximal femur, the ultrasonic wave reflected from the proximal femur is received, the ultrasonic attenuation coefficient and the backscatter coefficient are calculated and a correlation between the bone volume fraction (BV/TV) and the trabecular bone thickness (Tb, Th) is used such that the bone structure of the proximal femur can be estimated.
