The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating colon cancer and to a food composition for preventing or alleviating colon cancer, wherein a Treculia africana extract is included as an active ingredient. The composition including the Treculia Africana extract of the present invention does not exhibit toxicity for normal cells but induces the apoptosis of colon cancer cells to exhibit a remarkably excellent colon cancer cell killing effect. Accordingly, the composition can be usefully applied as an anticancer composition so as to be used as the pharmaceutical composition or the food composition for preventing or treating colon cancer.
