A complex of a metal M selected from the group of transition metals represented by the following formula (VI): (IAP) M (X) n (VI) wherein M is a metal selected from the group consisting of Group 8 and Class 9 metals in the Periodic Table Oxidation states "s" +2 and +3; each X is independently a group of anionic nature bonded to the metal as an anion in an ionic pair or with a "σ" type covalent bond; "N" represents the number of groups X sufficient to neutralize the formal "+ s" charge of the metal M and is equal to "s" when all X groups are monovalent; and (IAP) is a neutral organic ligand; characterized in that the ligand (IAP) consists of a monoimine of 2,6-diacylpyridine of the general formula V: wherein R 'and R' 'independently of one another are hydrogen or an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, each Ri (i = 1 to 8) independently of one another is hydrogen, C 1 -C 10 -alkyl or C 6 -C 15 -aryl, with the proviso that at least one of the R 1 or R 5 groups is a hydrocarbon radical.
