The sail wing described is made of completely flexible material. The cross section (in the region of the axis 1-1) 1 through the sail describes a wing-like profile (3). In contrast to wings which are flown only in a lateral position (eg air flow direction a, 3), the profile sail according to the invention is operated alternately from both sides (air flow direction a or b). To form the sail body are on both sides of the luffing side (7) of the wing per air inlet openings (4, 5, 2 and 3) on both sides of the wing along the luff. Depending on the direction of wind incidence, air flows into the sail through one of the two air inlet opening rows (4a-4i or 5a-5i) and holds its wing profile. Except for the air inlets the wing sail is closed. In order to maintain the greatest possible back pressure within the sail according to the invention, flaps (6, 2, 3, 10) close the air inlet openings (4 or 5) respectively seated on the opposite side of the sail when the sail is folded over so that the profile body shape is maintained.
