The bipolar plate (2) has a bipolar plate main portion which comprises central region (3) and peripheral region (5) which is formed by surrounding all sides of central region. The central region is made from metallic sheet (4). The peripheral region is formed by using a plastic frame (6). The plastic frame is made of high-temperature thermoplastic material and injected around the metallic sheet. The distribution channels are provided at the ends of plastic frame. The sheet is made of titanium and/or stainless steel. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) the PEM electrolyser; and (2) the method for manufacturing bipolar plate.
