The invention relates to an automation device with components which are connected in a network according to a ring topology, wherein the components (2, 3, 5, 7) each have a ring port (8, 9, 10, 11) for connection to a first adjacent and respectively a ring port (8, 9, 10, 11) for connection to a second adjacent component, wherein further two of the components as automation devices (2, 3) are formed, which synchronize by means of a synchronization protocol, and wherein moreover one of the components as Redundancy manager is provided which blocks the transmission of telegrams in a normal operation for generating a logical ring interruption one of its two ring ports and is also designed to lift in the event of a physical ring interruption blocking and to accomplish a ring reconfiguration.
