PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare an ordered porous silicon carbide material that includes an open (high surface area) skeleton.SOLUTION: In a method for preparing ordered mesoporous silicon carbide (OMSiC) nanocomposite material, it is preferable to utilize an evaporation-induced self-assembly of a precursor composition comprising a phenolic resin, pre-hydrolyzed tetraethyl orthosilicate, a surfactant, and butanol; said precursor mixture is dried, crosslinked, and heated, to form an ordered mesoporous silicon carbide material including an ordered discrete region of middle-sized pores.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1B
