PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a carbon-based material that has a smaller number of primary pores than that of carbon black used as a carrier of a fuel battery electrode catalyst and has good dispersibility.SOLUTION: A composite produced by growing a carbon nanofiber from the surface of a carbon nanoparticle such as carbon black or the like fills a primary pore of the carbon nanoparticle surface with the carbon nanofiber and therefore, so that the deterioration of utilization efficiency of a catalyst caused by allowing a catalyst such as platinum to enter into the primary pore can be prevented. The composite is easily handled because it hardly causes the deterioration in dispersibility by entanglement of mutual fibers as the ordinary carbon black fiber material.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
