PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide activated carbon for a water purifier which improves adsorption and filtration capacity of 1,1,1-trichloroethane, and chloroform among organochlorine compounds contained in water in activated carbon used for a water purifier, and to provide an activated carbon cartridge using the activated carbon.SOLUTION: Activated carbon has a specific surface area of 900-1,100 m/g. In measurement of pore distribution by an MP method, a total pore volume of pores having a pore diameter 0.6 nm or less accounts for 40-45% of a pore volume of all pores having a pore diameter 0-2 nm. In measurement of pore distribution by a DH method, a total pore volume of pores having a pore diameter of 2.0 nm or less accounts for 20-23% of a total volume of all pores having a pore diameter of 1-100 nm. A superficial oxide amount is 0.05-0.14 meq/g. In addition, a binder is added in the activated carbon, and the activated carbon is formed in a predetermined shape or fills a water passing container.
