PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ship having a square sail formed with a hard sail which is capable of accommodating the sail to such an extent that the existence of the sail draws no attention when the sail is not required, securing a view in a congested sea area, improving performances of ship handling, the anchoring and the pier docking and undocking under strong wind, and reducing an aerodynamic resistance under head wind in the ship provided with a main engine, a propeller device driven by the main engine and the square sail formed with the hard sail arranged on a deck, and to provide a method for accommodating and developing the square sail.SOLUTION: A rotation mechanism 20 is provided on a root support part of a sail main body 11 of a square sail 10, an upper part of the sail main body 11 is supported by a wire 25 which passes through a pulley 24 disposed on an apex of a mast 23, upon accommodation of the square sail 10, the sail main body 11 is rotated around the rotation mechanism 20, is turned over and is loaded on a deck 2 and, upon development of the square sail 10, the wire 25 is wound by a wire winding device 26 disposed on the deck 2 and, thereby, the sail main body 11 is rotated around the rotation mechanism 20 and is erected.
