PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for production of α-olefin polymer having further enhanced rigidity and density, more reduced amorphous component and improved stereoregularity, or less stickiness component, and to provide a production method of the catalyst.SOLUTION: There are provided: a catalyst; and a solid catalyst component for α-olefin polymerization which is obtained by a contact treatment of a solid catalyst component containing magnesium, titanium, halogen and an electron donative compound as essential components with a phenol compound represented by general formula (1), and which has a molar ratio of the phenol compound to the titanium component in the solid catalyst component in a range of 0.1 to 1.5. (I), where Ris a tertiary hydrocarbon group having 4 or more carbon atoms, and Ris a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group.
