A research system for analyzing digital three-dimensional (3D) volume of a material sample. Using the specified research system, several sizes of the investigated volumes are set, each of which contains a different number of cells that determine the size of the sections of the analyzed 3D digital volume. Using this research system, for each size of the test volume, two adjacent sections of the 3D digital volume are obtained for each size of the test volume that is currently being analyzed. Using the specified research system for two adjacent sections of the digital 3D volume, calculate the value of the material property and the difference value between two adjacent sections of the digital 3D volume. This process is repeated for different sizes of the test volumes. Using the specified research system for different sizes of the studied volumes, average difference values are calculated, according to which a representative elementary volume (REV) is determined.
