The aim of the invention is to provide a solution for engaging a safe state in an intermediate circuit of an electric load of a household appliance in the event of a short circuit in an intermediate circuit capacitor (13) or also in the load circuit (2). A circuit assembly (1) is provided which comprises a circuit input (3), a circuit output (10) and an intermediate circuit capacitor (13) switched between two output connections (11, 12). Coupling means (16) are provided which, after application of a DC voltage UG at the circuit input (3), couple the intermediate circuit capacitor (13) with the circuit input (3) via an electrical connection (18) in order to charge the intermediate circuit capacitor (13) with electric energy and to interrupt the electrical connection (18) after a predefined time period has elapsed. The coupling means (16) are preferably electrically bridged using bridging means (39) when the intermediate circuit voltage Uz exceeds a certain threshold value at the intermediate circuit capacitor (13).
