The present invention pertains to the phytoremediation field. Particularly the invention refers to genetically modified plants used in phytoremediation. The invention specifically refers to Pteridium aquilinum fern plants, genetically modified by shock waves, which express the ATPasa for conveying heavy metals, HMA4, from Arabidopsis thaliana; and method for obtaining said plants. The present invention supplies Ptendium aquilinum plants with improved capacities for translocating heavy metals to the aerial parts of the plant, which result useful in phytoremediation processes for removing, in a more efficient and affordable manner, heavy metals from polluted soils.
