A method of producing an elastic composite material (210,710,810) for incorporation into a disposable absorbent garment (110,410,510,610,910), said method comprising the steps of: providing an elastic element applicator (1007,1507) configured to move a section (WW) of a continuous strand of elastic element generally around a plane (XX); transporting a first band (1003a, 1003b) of nonwoven material in a direction of movement of the band such that the first band of nonwoven material crosses the plane; and operating the elastic element applicator to move the elastic element around said plane, thus applying the section of elastic element on an exposed outer surface of the first band having a width and along a direction generally transverse to said direction of movement of the band and laterally across the width of an exposed external surface.
