Embodiments of the present invention provide a data packet header encapsulation method, a decapsulation method and apparatus. For the data to be transmitted in the MAC layer, the transmitting device and the receiving device of the data to be transmitted in the MAC layer are determined; according to whether the transmitting device and the receiving device locate in the same wireless sub-network or whether the transmitting device and the receiving device are the wireless access point devices, the respective first index identification or second index identification of the transmitting device and the receiving device is obtained and used as the address of the MAC layer data packet header address domain by replacing the MAC address of the device. Because the bytes of the first index identification or second index identification are all less than the MAC address, thus the space occupied by the MAC layer data packet header is reduced, the final generated space occupied by the WLAN data packet header is reduced, the packet header cost is decreased, and the power consumption can be reduced.
