The invention relates to medical diagnostics, in particular to a device for determining indications for antibacterial therapy, and to a method for determining indications for antibacterial therapy, in the event of disease-related respiratory tract changes. The device is in the form of a base which is capable of absorbing a liquid, said base being impregnated with a solution comprising urea and a pH indicator, or is in the form of two bases capable of absorbing a liquid, wherein one base is impregnated with a solution comprising urea, and the second is impregnated with a pH indicator. The device can be manufactured in the form of a holder to which a base is fastened. The method for determining indications for antibacterial therapy involves extracting biological material from a patient with features of respiratory tract damage, and identifying the presence of urease in the biological material. When the presence of urease in the biological material is confirmed, a judgement is made about the necessity of antibacterial therapy. The presence of urease is determined with the aid of the device being claimed for determining indications for antibacterial therapy. The proposed invention provides for a simplification and acceleration of the method for determining indications for antibacterial therapy, and also for an increase in the accuracy of the diagnostics.
