The present invention relates to a method for reducing toxicity of a Coptis chinensis extract and, more particularly, to a method for reducing toxicity of a Coptis chinensis extract comprising: a first step for extracting Coptis chinensis using water, lower graded alcohol having 1 to 4 carbons, or a mixed solvent thereof; and a second step for obtaining water, alcohol, or a mixed solvent fraction of water and alcohol by dividing the extract using a non-polar organic solvent for reduction of toxicity of the herb medicine extract. According to the present invention, a Coptis chinensis extract is known as herb medicine having toxicity despite original useful efficacy, so the use thereof was limited.
