A system to estimate a tool wear and a life of a tool based on a linear regression analysis comprises: a profile projector which captures an abrasion area of a cutting tool, removes an unnecessary image area, contracts a size of an image and generates an abrasion area image of the cutting tool; a data pre-processing module which processes the generated abrasion area image of the cutting tool by means of a conversion of a principal component analysis to contract a high dimensional feature vector to a low dimensional feature vector in a predetermined dimension, maps the contracted low dimensional feature vector on the principal components, and determines an independent variable showing a state of tool wear; and a linear regression analysis unit which estimates the tool wear through a process which substitutes the determined independent variable with a predetermined linear regression analysis formula, predicting a dependent variable which is the result of the regression analysis.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
