A multi-purpose ophthalmic surgical system comprises: an imaging system configured to support lens target area detection in cataract; a laser unit configured to supply laser pulses for cataract management to perform photodisruption of a segment of the target area in cataract. The imaging system is also configured to support peripheral target area detection in glaucoma; and the laser unit is also configured to supply laser pulses for glaucoma management to make one or more incisions in the target area in glaucoma by photodisruption.
