PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ESTABLISHING AND DEPLOYING SCHEDULES IN SUCH SYSTEM

A public transportation system, comprises a plurality of public transport vehicles, wherein a vehicle comprises a location mechanism adapted to communicate said vehicle's positioning to a vehicle location database, a transport network including a given number of routes, each route comprising a route-specific timetable that contains the times public transport vehicles pass at each of said route's stops or stations, a given number of networkwise schedules with non-overlapping temporal coverage, a scheduling component configured to execute an optimization framework, in accordance with given optimization criteria and by using at least vehicles' positioning data stored at said vehicle location database as input, for establishing a schedule plan that includes the number of schedules to be deployed, each schedule's coverage and the timetables for each schedule and each route, and communication means adapted to transmit either the entire schedule plan or schedule plan updates to physical devices contained in a digital subscriber list. Furthermore, a method for performing scheduling in a public transportation system is described.
