PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide stem cells expressing antiangiogenic proteins.SOLUTION: The present invention provides stem cells that inhibit angiogenesis in the human body. The stem cells are genetically engineered mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) comprising a recombinant vector carrying the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) gene and expresses a VEGFR polypeptide. The stem cells are those used to inhibit angiogenesis for treatment in patients suffering from macular degeneration, corneal angiogenesis, cancer, diabetic retinopathy, lymphangiogenesis, retinal neovascularization, thyroid hyperplasia, preeclampsia, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, Alzheimer's disease, obesity, pleural effusion, atherosclerosis, endometriosis, and choroidal neovascularization.
