PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an austenitic stainless steel for high-pressure hydrogen, which does not contain Mo, is inexpensive, and shows low hydrogen embrittlement sensitivity even at -40°C.SOLUTION: The austenitic stainless steel for high-pressure hydrogen includes: by mass%, 0.06% or less C, 1.0% or less Si, 1.7% or less Mn, 0.040% or less P, 0.030% or less S, 8.0% to 13.5% Ni, 16.5% to 20.0% Cr, 0.05% to 0.09% N, and the balance being Fe and unavoidable impurities; and satisfies an expression 1: 3.7Ni+2.5Mn-1.6Cr-0.9Si+266N-330.
