Fructose 1, 6-biphosphatases as new targets for diagnosing and treating breast cancer brain metastasis

A method and composition for treating cancer cells that targets fructose-1,6-biphosphatase (EC:3.1.3.11) enzymes (FBPs, type 1 and type 2) and/or their respective pathways. In one embodiment, inhibitors of FBPs or FBPs pathways are administered to a patient to treat brain cancer metastasis. In another embodiment, the present invention is particularly well suited for treating cancer cells that generally survive under glucose-independent conditions, or any other condition where cancer cells produce glucose via FBPs mediated pathways.
