abstract ultrasound imaging system to provide a three-dimensional image of a volume; method for determining a distance between a first point and a second point in a three-dimensional ultrasound image of a volume; and computer program the present invention relates to an ultrasound imaging system and a method for measuring a distance between two points within a volume of a three-dimensional image. to avoid the commonly known shortening effect, whereby a distance measured by the system is shorter than an actual distance between the two points, as in-depth control of a cursor shown in the viewfinder image as provided to the user. In addition, an indication may be given to the user that the cursor collides with a structure within the volume to allow the user to evaluate the cursor movement outside the plane shown on the most convenient display. Therefore, the shortening effect can be avoided.
