One method may include measuring microsystem activity in a relief well, thereby detecting a microsystem event in a soil formation penetrated by the relief well; and determining a location of an inflow into a target wellbore, based on the detection of a micro seismic event. A micro seismic range system for use with an underground well may include at least one micro seismic sensor in a relief well bore that penetrates an earth formation, with the micro seismic sensor detecting a micro seismic event in the formation, the micro seismic event being caused by a inflow into a target wellbore. another method may include measuring optical scattering in an optical waveguide positioned in a relief well bore, thereby detecting a micro seismic event in a ground formation penetrated by the relief well bore; and determining a location of an inflow into a target wellbore, based on the detection of a micro seismic event.
