The present invention relates to the field of animal health and provides tools for the study of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), a viral disease that affects pigs, and for the development of vaccines, therapeutic and diagnostic tools for the prevention, treatment and diagnosis of PRRS. In the first review, the invention relates to a new variant of the PRRS virus. In a second review, the invention relates to a nucleic acid sequence that includes the genome of the PRRS clone of the infectious genotype I (EU). Based on this, new candidates for PRRS vaccines with improved properties are provided.
