A carbonaceous material having a continuous porous structure oriented along the axis of stretching, which can be used as a structural material excellent in interfacial adhesion, and a method for its preparation are proposed. The problem described above can be solved using a porous carbonaceous material having a continuous porous structure, at least in part, in which the continuous porous structure has an orientation degree measured using the small-angle X-ray scattering method or the computer X-ray tomography method, equal to 1.10 or more.
