The present invention belongs to the technical field of heavy-weight vehicles with electric drive and having an on-board generator assembly. The invention relates to a method for controlling a switching-off and starter device (10) for the internal combustion engine (4) of the generator assembly (5), the method comprising the following steps, if the switching-off conditions of the internal combustion engine (4) are met: - interrupting the power supply bus (24) which connects the generator assembly (5) to the electric drive (23); - switching off the internal combustion engine (4). The present invention also relates to a switching-off and starter device (10) for such an internal combustion engine (4).
