A method for delineating a metropolitan area based on a regional inter-city flow intensity measuring model comprises steps of: 1) determining a regional range of a city group to be measured and associated cities displaying inter-city flow; 2) respectively measuring, according to the determined associated cities, regional inter-city flow intensities for flow categories of an associated city group, wherein the flow categories are economic flow, passenger flow, freight flow, technology flow and information flow; 3) obtaining integrated inter-city flow intensities and degrees of membership of a central city and other related cities by weighted calculation according to the five flow categories; 4) storing the above information in an ArcGIS database, and establishing, by association to spatial data and table data, a regional intercity flow database; 5) performing four sets of natural intermittent cluster analysis on information in the established regional intercity flow database, and defining a narrow range and a broad range for the metropolitan area. The method can perform definition, integration and measurement based on multiple factors of city linkage intensities and accordingly delineate multiple circular ranges of a metropolitan area.
