The present invention relates to a composition for inhibiting an oxidative damage of DNA by using excellent antioxidative activity of an extract of inner and outer shells of chestnuts. The present invention also relates to a method for using the effects of the extract of inner and outer shells of chestnuts by applying the composition to various fields, such as pharmaceuticals, health-aids and food additives. According to the present invention, the extract of inner and outer shells of chestnuts shows antioxidative activity for DNA which causes an oxidative damage in vitro to inhibit an oxidative damage of DNA so that DNA is restored in a concentration-dependent manner. In addition, according to the present invention, the effect of the extract of inner and outer shells of chestnuts upon inhibition of an oxidative damage of DNA is useful for providing a functional food material and a pharmaceutical composition which show strong antioxidative activity against diseases resulting from an in vivo oxidative damage caused by active oxygen.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
