The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition, a food composition, and a food additive for preventing, alleviating, or treating muscular atrophy and sarcopenia, all of which comprise Enterococcus faecalis, in particular, Enterococcus faecalis EF-2001, a culture fluid thereof, or heat-killed cells thereof as an active ingredient. The heat-killed cells of Enterococcus faecalis EF-2001 of the present invention exhibits significant effects of treating muscular atrophy and sarcopenia by suppressing damage of muscular tissues due to oxidative stress, and thus the heat-killed cells of Enterococcus faecalis EF-2001 or a culture fluid thereof may be beneficially used as an active ingredient of a pharmaceutical composition, a food composition, and a food additive for preventing muscular atrophy and sarcopenia.
