The present invention relates to an inverter based inertia free standalone microgrid system using a power management unit (PMU) including PMU-based phase synchronous data acquisition and global positioning system (GPS) time synchronization based phase synchronous converter control, and an operation and control method thereof. According to the present invention, the system comprises: standalone microgrids having convertors to determine voltage and phase of a point at which a plurality of distributed power devices are linked; a convertor controller configured to correspond to each of the convertors installed in the standalone microgrids to control the convertors, so as to control switch operation of each of the convertors; a microgrid control center to perform power generation estimation and economical power supply functions for microgrid operation, and to perform a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) function to automatically supervise and control an operation state of lower equipment; and a multi-microgrid control tower to manage the microgrid control centers connected and configured in each microgrid, to synchronize both mother lines when the separated microgrid is linked, and to order the microgrid control center of an individual microgrid to have phase and voltage for power transfer between multi-microgrids after linkage.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2017
