An estimator for a future shape includes an insert section (7), a shape sensor (8), and an estimation section (33) for the future shape of the insertion section. The insertion section (7) has flexibility and is an observation target object insertable. The shape sensor (8) detects a bending state of the insertion section and outputs a detection signal. The future shape estimation portion (33) of the introduction portion estimates a future shape of the introduction portion after elapse of a certain time based on information from the detection signal output from the shape sensor, and outputs the future shape as future estimated shape information.
