The invention relates to a method for transporting and installing an underwater structure on the seabed, said underwater structure being intended to support and anchor marine equipment and comprising an open structure formed by beams and/or tubes assembled into a lattice that forms a tower (1), in which the following steps are carried out: a) the tower is towed in the sea, and subsequently b) the tower is lowered to the seabed, characterised in that: prior to step (b), and preferably prior to step (a), panels (2, 2a, 2b, 2c) are applied at least to a lower part (1-1) of the tower, such as to form at least one first sealed flotation and ballast caisson (3), said first caisson preferably being equipped with at least one valve that opens to the exterior; and, in step (b), the first caisson is filled with seawater in order to lower the tower to the seabed, said first caisson preferably remaining only partially filled with seawater.
