PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-propelled road cutting machine which can be used in a versatile manner and a method of road surface cutting.SOLUTION: A self-propelled road cutting machine 1 for road surface cutting, equipped with a height-adjustable vehicle body 4, a machine frame 8 supported by the vehicle body, a cutting roller housing 10 and a cutting roller 12 arranged on the machine frame, a cutting roller drive unit, and conveyor belt means 18 for removing a cutting object cut by the cutting roller, the conveyor belt means discharging the shaved cutting object frontward, a tip end 22 of the cutting roller housing being substantially flush with outer lateral surfaces 26, 28 of the machine frame so that the cutting is performed as near as possible to the edge part or an obstacle, the self-propelled road cutting machine characterized in that the rear end of the roller housing is flush with a height-adjustable stripper shield 64 which is placed transversally on a cutting track 68 of the cutting roller and comes into resilient contact with respect to a cutting edge 70 of the cutting track.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
