PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brilliant coating composition which largely changes brilliance from a solid color to a metallic color depending on a viewing angle, and also largely changes a color tone; a brilliant coated matter; and a method for forming a brilliant coated film.MEANS FOR SOLVING THE PROBLEM: A brilliant coating composition is obtained by adding a brilliant pigment to a base coating composition capable of forming a coated film of a solid color, where the brilliant pigment is an iron oxide coated brilliant pigment in which a surface of aluminum particles or silica particles is coated with an iron oxide, the iron oxide coated brilliant pigment is contained in a range of 5 pts.mass or more and 25 pts.mass or less with respect to 100 pts.mass of a resin component in the brilliant coating composition, and as for a color gamut of the solid color measured by regularly reflected light at an incident angle of 20° of the coated film formed of the base coating composition, L(20°) is 17 or more and 22 or less, a(20°) is -1.0 or more and 1.0 or less, and b(20°) is -3.0 or more and -1.8 or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
