PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for easing edit of key frame data defining temporal thermal output properties of a thermal output device during video playback.SOLUTION: Example implementations are directed to a system to generate key frames describing a temperature output state of thermal output devices during synchronous playback of video material. This additional haptic output channel augments existing audio and video channels. The example implementations provide a manual key frame authoring interface and an architecture for playing back a video with a thermal output channel. The example implementations also involve an automatic key frame generation method for thermal output accompanying a video, and provide a temperature profile function to enable rapid changing between temperature values for thermal output devices that use open-loop control.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
