Problem to be solved: the present invention provides a novel gene, WMS, which provides wheat male sterility, its anther specific expression promoter and their use.In China, the well-known gene MS2 which causes dominant male sterility has been widely applied to the circulation selection of wheat. An anther specific transcriptome of a pair of MS2 homologue "Lumai 15" and "Lumai 15 + MS2" was carried out by the RNA SEQ method. As the result, the WMS gene which showed the anther peculiar expression in the stage of meiosis was identified only in the wheat which had the MS2 gene.Regulation of WMS can alter the male fertility of plants. The promoter of WMS has an anther specific activity. Accordingly, the present invention can be used to achieve anther specific gene expression, expression of male sterility in various plant species, establishment of cyclic selection of various plant species, and assistance of hybrid seed production.Diagram
