The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of azilsartan medoxomil potassium. The present invention further relates to novel highly crystalline polymorphs of azilsartan medoxomil potassium and compositions containing the same. The present invention provides a process for making a thermally stable highly crystalline polymorph of azilsartan medoxomil potassium and a composition comprising a novel highly crystalline polymorph of azilsartan medoxomil potassium.
