PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for performing high-sensitivity measurements for various amino acids using a pre-column derivatization LC-MS method.SOLUTION: Both an amino group and a carboxyl group contained in an amino acid are derivatized by using a bromoalkyl compound such as 1-bromobutane. This reaction enables also an amino acid with its amino group blocked to have its carboxyl group to be derivatized. Various amino acids in the sample, pre-column derivatized in this way, are separated in well retained and sharp peaks by performing an LC-MS analysis with detection sensitivity being increased.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
