In a manual driving method for an elevator hoist (1), the following steps are carried out in random order: a step for connecting the first end (53a) of a raising device (53) to the structure side (57) of an elevator or the engine bed thereof; a step for connecting the second end (53b) of the raising device (53) to the first end (55a) of a flexible body (55); a step for rolling the flexible body (55) onto a sheave (7) of the elevator hoist (1); and a step for connecting the second end (55b) of the flexible body (55) to the sheave (7). In the method, the raising device (53) is operated to draw the second end (53b) of the raising device (53) towards the first end (53a) of the raising device (53), and as a result, the sheave (7) is caused to rotate.
