High surface area microporous activated carbon obtained from the flamboyant pod (delonix regia). The present invention relates to the production of high surface area microporous activated carbon from the flamboyant (delonix regia) pods by chemical activation with noh in two separate carbonization and activation steps. The controlled activation process based on multivariate optimization techniques allows obtaining a suitable material for the removal of various pollutants. The application of this material in the removal of dyes with different chemical characteristics shows a high efficiency, practicality and speed in the use of this material as adsorbent. Flamboyant pods, with no practical use yet, gain added value and an important application in the production of low-cost activated carbon.
