ABSTRACT: Wireless sensor network is a recent technology that has a wide range of potential applications including military sensing, physical security, air traffic control, traffic surveillance, video surveillance, industrial and manufacturing automation, distributed robotics, environment monitoring, and structures monitoring. Individual sensor node is resource, energy, bandwidth, computation, memory constrained device. WSNs face considerable technical challenges in energy efficiency, spectrum efficiency and security. Security for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is being an extremely important topic in recent years. Media Access Control (MAC) protocols in WSNs are available for sharing the media, which concentrates on balancing the efficiency and fairness of common channel access. WSNs will be restricted to limited and controlled environments due to security issues. A modified secure MAC protocol is proposed for WSN. This modification contains change of intrusion detection parameters which are based on change in channel condition according to the classification of popular DoS attacks on MAC layer. This modified FSMAC protocol consists of indicators for intrusion detection according to channel condition for different DoS attacks on MAC layer. It utilizes the fuzzy logic theory to implement decision making on intrusion. Respective counter measures are taken to reduce the destruction of attacks based on intrusion detection results. This protocol detects DoS attack by intrusion detecting parameters which are "number of times node sensed free channel" and Variation in time sense period".
