This present invention deals with the conversion of non-edible raw pumpkin seed oil into pumpkin seed oil methyl ester or pumpkin seed oil biodiesei using transesterification process. The physical and chemical properties of PSOME are analysed based on ASTM D6751 biodiesei standards under laboratory condition and compared with diesel. Further, the available functional group and fatty acid compositions of the PSOME are examined using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Gas Chromatography- Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The obtained biodiesei is blended with diesel in different blending ratio and experimentally investigated in a direct injection diesel engine. In the present investigation, Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) technique is adopted in order to improve the engine characteristics. Partially Stabilized Zirconia (PSZ) is used as a TBC material on combustion chamber components namely piston head, cylinder head, inlet and exhaust valves. Improved thermal efficiency and decreased fuel consumption are observed with diesel and B25 biodiesei blend in both coated and conventional engine, in thermally coated engine, lower C02, HC and smoke emissions are observed B25 sample than other fuels. Among various blends,. B25 showed better performance and reduced emission characteristics than , other fuel samples. As the calorific value of PSOME is near to diesel, B25 in PSZ coated engine shows enhanced performance and declined emission parameters.
