Operation of a nuclear reactor using a deposit model of a heat transfer surface of the nuclear reactor

A method for operating a nuclear reactor comprising: defining a layer increase (24) of a deposit layer (10) that models a deposit on a heat transfer surface (12) of the nuclear reactor; periodically update a thickness of the deposit layer (10) by adding the layer increase to the deposit layer (10); recalculate the properties of the deposit layer (10) after adding each layer increase (24) to the deposit layer (10); determine a variable related to the temperature of the heat transfer surface (12) based on the recalculated properties of the deposit layer (10); and alter the operation of the nuclear reactor when the variable related to the temperature of the heat transfer surface (12) reaches a predetermined value.
